The sensational Tembo Hotel is where we stayed in Zanzibar. It was perfect: rooms were beautiful, location on the beach was great, the free breakfast was top quality and varied, and lunch and dinner included lots of awesome Indian food choices. It was totally renovated from being a wreck of a building in 1995 to an archetectural gem.
